Shape Changing Garment

Shape Changing Garments

This project explores the relationship between fashion & technology as a means of improving user's relationships with their clothing through creating shape changing garments that reflect the multifaceted daily needs of their wearers. As a collaboration class supported by Intel, the team conducted user testing to confirm personal struggles with different kinds of attire needed for multiple events throughout a single day. Through traditional couture smocking techniques, sewn with shape memory alloy wires and draping styles on the slit of a contemporary dress, we created two garments that can subtly and delicately change shape based on their wearer's daily calendar data.
