Open Style Lab & All Girl Challenge

I was thrilled to be a part of OSL & the All Girl Challenge this year. I cannot think of anything more gratifying than helping young girls develop creative solutions and ideas. The All Girl Challenge provided a one-day design workshop for young girls from underprivileged schools on the east coast. All the girls also have a background in the sciences.

I had a chance to teach design thinking exercises such as, "domain mapping" to the high school girls. I had the intention to resonate my experiences in design and technology for the workshop but, I overlooked the fact the girls were very tech-savy. They had the power of Google Searches and You Tube tutorials at their fingertips for instance resource references. I was surprised to discover some of the girls demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit. Overall, most of the students had a strong desire to incorporate their science skills with elements from the arts and design.
